Goodbye Bill

Early this week we received the news that our dear friend and colleague Bill Gallagher had passed away. In one sense this did not come as a a surprise as we all knew Bill suffered from a terminal illness. It was his ill health that recently took him back to his family in New Zealand.

Bill had many jobs in the past, from dairy farmer, proud father of three talented boys, husband to Marion who sadly passed away at Rochester after they had moved there to retire and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle.  He felt he owed Marion a more enjoyable life after dragging her across the ditch.

He set up Carpet court in Australia after managing and growing it in NZ. He was so successful he became known as the Carpet King back of NZ.

Bill managed Auckland waste, had a Kiwi fruit farm, was a bouncer and he played rugby. He was a life member of NUFG and was very much loved and respected by us all.

He has shut the gate for the last time but we will always carry his words and memories with us.

We have lost a great mate.

RIP Bill Gallagher
